London neighbourhoods
The London Plan does not map definitive neighbourhood boundaries. These notes follow City designations, secondary plans, and one named street segment. A familiar name can be larger than the map.
The notes sit with The London Realtor. Confirm a lot on CityMap before you treat a name as the line. The City says the printed official plan takes precedence over the website copies.
The seven notes
- Wortley Village–Old South is a Heritage Conservation District designated on 1 June 2015, and the City's boundary is general, not the edge of every street called Old South.
- Old North has no City boundary. The only Old North line in the 16 January 2026 Place Type Policies is Richmond Street from Oxford Street to Huron Street, and that is a street segment.
- Woodfield is not one district. East Woodfield was designated in 1994 and West Woodfield in 2008, and the published neighbourhood perimeters are approximate.
- Old East Village is three tools, not one map: the heritage district designated in 2006, the Dundas Street corridor secondary plan, and a business improvement area.
- Downtown has a Heritage Conservation District of about 400 properties, designated on 18 June 2013, and the boundary excludes CitiPlaza.
- SoHo, south of Horton, is larger than the Old Victoria Hospital Lands Secondary Plan, which covers the former hospital lands between Waterloo and Colborne Streets.
- Blackfriars/Petersville is its own Heritage Conservation District, designated on 15 May 2015, historically an independent village, with about 580 properties.
What the designation does, and does not, decide
A Heritage Conservation District is designated under Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act. The emphasis is the area, not one building. Districts are marked by blue street signs with white text and a decorative top. The sign is not the lot line.
A Heritage Alteration Permit is required for the classes of alteration in that district's plan. The classes are not the same in every district. They are not copied here. A listed property that is not designated does not need that permit for an alteration. Demolition or removal of a building on a listed non-designated property has its own review. The district pages are on the City's heritage districts page.
Market figures are on the LSTAR statistics page. This site prints no sold price. The sequence for using a written place is on how hiring works. The notes to keep are a London file.
